You’re at Nha Trang Marriott Resort & Spa out on Hon Tre Island — gorgeous sea views, infinity pool, blissfully cut off from the noise of town. But after a few days of swimming, diving, and the water park, your suitcase is filling up with dirty clothes. You glance at the five-star resort’s laundry price list and wince: washing just a little bit costs as much as a good meal. Thinking of taking it to a shop in town for less? Here’s the catch — the laundry shop is on the mainland, and you’re in the middle of the bay, reaching town only by speedboat or cable car through the Marriott Pier.
This is the particular situation for guests at the island Marriott — and it’s genuinely different from mainland resorts. At a resort on the mainland, a laundry shop can just drive over and collect from the front desk. Hon Tre Island isn’t that simple: access is controlled, there’s a face scan at the terminal, and we can’t just pop over to the island to grab laundry from your room. I’ll say that plainly so you’re not expecting the wrong thing. But don’t worry — there’s still a way to get your laundry done at a fair price, and this post walks you through the tidiest way to do it.
Why resort laundry costs so much
It’s not that resorts are gouging you on purpose. It’s just how they operate. Most resorts don’t actually wash guest clothes in-house — they have machines for bed linen and towels in bulk, but personal laundry usually gets bundled up and billed by the piece at a steep markup. Add a service charge, tax, a “convenience” fee, and even a little bit of washing climbs to several hundred thousand đồng, sometimes more.
With an island resort like the Marriott, there’s an extra layer: everything on the island has to be shipped across via the pier, so operating costs run higher than on the mainland. That feeds into the price of everything, laundry included.
Here’s the honest part: you’re paying a premium for on-site convenience, not for a better wash. If it’s just one or two urgent items, that convenience is real. But for a full suitcase, the total adds up painfully.
What laundry should actually cost
At our shop, wash-and-dry is priced by weight — fixed and transparent:
- Wash & dry, up to 3kg: 60,000đ (about $2.40)
- 5kg: 90,000đ (about $3.60)
- 7kg: 120,000đ (about $4.80)
- Over 7kg: 18,000đ/kg
- Ironing (if you want items pressed separately): 20,000đ per piece
- Sneaker cleaning: 70,000đ per pair
To put that in perspective: a couple on a 4-5 day trip usually generates around 5kg of laundry. That’s 90,000đ here — washed, dried, folded, smelling fresh. Send that same bag through the resort and, well, ask for the quote first. The difference easily covers an extra seafood dinner once you’re in town.
And this price is the same for everyone — no “wash it faster for extra money” tier. The washing itself only takes 2-4 hours, because we use commercial washers and gas dryers rather than hanging things out to wait on the weather.
How to use the service from the island
This is the part that’s genuinely different, so let me spell it out. Because the Marriott is on Hon Tre Island and access is controlled, we don’t come to the island to collect from your room or the resort front desk. Instead, there are two practical ways to do it.
Method 1: Meet on the mainland when you come into town
This is the neatest approach. At some point during your stay, you’ll almost certainly head into central Nha Trang — dinner, the night market, shopping, coffee. On that trip, bring your bag of laundry with you. Before you cross to the mainland, message us to arrange a time and meeting point — that could be right at the Marriott Pier area, or a convenient spot in the center near wherever you’re headed.
You hand over the laundry, then go enjoy your day. We take it back to the shop, wash and dry it. When you’re done in town and heading back to the pier for the island, we arrange to hand your clean laundry back at the meeting point. You carry it onto the boat and back to your room — no separate trip made just for laundry.
A small tip: line it up with your town plans. Say you’re coming to the mainland for lunch and not heading back to the island until evening — drop it off at lunch, pick it up in the evening, and there’s plenty of time for the wash and dry in between.
Method 2: Ask the Marriott front desk for help
If bringing the laundry along yourself isn’t convenient, you can ask the Marriott front desk whether they’re able to help send laundry down to the mainland pier or lobby for guests. Many resorts move items back and forth across the pier every day, so this can sometimes be arranged. We’d then come to the mainland side to collect.
I’ll be honest: this one depends on Marriott’s own policy — it’s not something we can promise on the resort’s behalf. So ask the front desk first whether it’s possible, then message us to coordinate. If it works, great; if not, fall back on Method 1.
About the delivery fee and total time
Because the island logistics are complex and vary from guest to guest, I’m not going to quote a hard delivery fee or total turnaround here — throwing out a number that turns out not to fit your situation would just be misleading. The best move: message us and describe your situation (how much laundry, when you’re coming into town, when you’d like it back), and we’ll advise the most convenient approach and give you a specific quote. The washing itself is always 2-4 hours; the rest depends on your island transfer timing.

Checking out or catching an early flight? Time your laundry right
Departure day is where island guests get a little anxious — you’ve got ferry or cable-car timing, the transfer to shore, and then the drive to the airport, all stacked up. Wet laundry does not belong in that mix.
So plan ahead. If you’ll be in town the day before checkout, that’s your moment: hand off the laundry then, collect it clean before you head back to the island that evening, and pack a tidy suitcase the night before. If your flight is very early and you won’t be crossing to the mainland beforehand, message us a day or two ahead — describe your schedule and we’ll work out the most realistic way to get your clean laundry to you before you leave. The one thing that never works is leaving it to the last morning; island transfers don’t move on your schedule.
When to use an outside service, and when not to
To be fair, calling an outside shop isn’t always the right move for island guests.
If you just need one or two items done urgently — a shirt for dinner, trousers with a spot on them — and you’ve got no town trip planned those days, just send them through the resort. It saves you juggling timing, and the difference is small change.
But when it’s a full suitcase after a few days, or a whole family traveling together, the gap gets real — and since you’re going into town anyway, bringing a laundry bag along costs you almost nothing extra. That’s when an outside service makes sense, both on price and on convenience. Weigh it against your own itinerary.
Quick questions, quick answers
I’m at the Marriott on Hon Tre Island — do you come to the island to collect?
No. Because access to Hon Tre Island is controlled, we don’t come to the island to collect from your room or the resort front desk. Instead, you meet our staff on the mainland (at the Marriott Pier area or a meeting point in the center) when you come into town, or you can ask the Marriott front desk whether they can help send your laundry down to the mainland pier for us to collect.
What does wash and dry cost?
Fixed per-kilo pricing: up to 3kg is 60,000đ, 5kg is 90,000đ, 7kg is 120,000đ, over 7kg is 18,000đ/kg. Ironing is 20,000đ per piece and sneaker cleaning is 70,000đ per pair. The price is the same for everyone — no express surcharge. The washing itself takes 2-4 hours.
What’s the delivery fee and total turnaround?
Because the island logistics depend on how it’s arranged for each guest, we don’t quote a fixed figure here. Message us describing your situation (how much laundry, when you’re coming into town, when you’d like it back) and we’ll advise and give a specific quote. The washing itself is always 2-4 hours; total time depends on your island transfer timing.
I have an early flight — how do I get clean laundry before leaving the island?
Plan ahead. If you’re in town the day before checkout, hand off your laundry then and collect it clean before heading back that evening. If your flight is very early and you won’t cross to the mainland beforehand, message us a day or two ahead with your schedule and we’ll work out the most realistic way to get your clean laundry to you in time. Don’t leave it to the last morning — island transfers run on their own schedule, not yours.

A last word
Staying at the Marriott on Hon Tre Island is a lovely experience — but the price of being out in the bay is that every mainland convenience takes a little arranging. Laundry is one of them. We can’t deliver to your room the way a mainland resort’s shop might, but if you time it with a town trip, it’s tidier than you’d think.
